I love watching movies. Over the years I've often wished I had a list of my favorite movies that I could quickly reference. I never seem to be able to name them when someone asks me. In particular, I really enjoy independent films as opposed to the traditional Hollywood film. I also enjoy watching movie classics.

I just wached a wonderful Chinese film, Hero (Ying xiong). In the mold of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon this film had stunning cinematography and an intriguing story.

AMC recently had an Audrey Hepburn marathon and my TIVO came through for me in the clutch, picking up several excellent films. I saw Audrey's debut movie, Roman Holiday with Gregory Peck. What a wonderful film! They had great chemistry together. I also got to see the original Sabrina, co-starring Humphrey Bogart and William Holden along with Audrey. I loved this film too, it had a stellar cast and an interesting story line. Two thumbs up for both of these pictures. Audrey was amazing in both of them. I'm going to have to have my TIVO hunt for some more classic Audrey films.

Movie Favorites

Here is a list of some of my favorite movies. Hint: mouse over the movie title to get a preview image

  • Next Stop Wonderland: another romantic comedy staring Hope Davis. It is named after the Wonderland blue line stop on the Boston Subway. Needless to say it has some great scenery of Boston. The story is wonderful. Definetely one of my favorites.
  • Much Ado About Nothing: a classic romantic comedy with an incredible cast. Shakespeare at his best! Kenneth Branagh and Ema Thompson were great on screen together.
  • The Spanish Prisoner: I am a big David Mamet fan. I tend to enjoy all of his stuff. But this is definetly one of his best films. I'm not a big Steve Martin fan but he made a great villain in this suspense film which keeps you guessing all the way to the end!
  • The Red Violin: Beautiful music, excellent cinematography, fascinating stories about the violin. I thoroughly enjoyed this.
  • Moulin Rouge! Many folks though this movie was just a little too weird with the modern music. I thought it was great. A very special film that stood out from the usual hollywood fair that year. The singing was beautiful just like the sets.
